Laughter Is Your Medicine

Micheal Palin as Pontious Pilate in The Life of Brian (source: YouTube)

For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved making people smile and even laugh. It brings me such joy to see someone’s eyes and teeth show off their white bits. Remember after coming back from holidays abroad and people of the opposite sex asking you to show them your white bits in some laboured attempt to woo you?

I digress as usual.

Making people smile is one of the most rewarding moments in life. To amuse people I often fabricated pithy comments or showed them funny pictures and crazy quotes. Now its mostly done via my phone on social media platforms. But still, the joy of laughter is noted. It all depends on the delivery of the joke. I often like to catch people by surprise and so, remain as somber as an undertaker at a.. Better not reveal that one! Delivery of humour with a smile or laughter puts the listener at ease and encourages them to reciprocate

I even laugh at myself which apparently isn’t a good thing but who decides what we can and can’t laugh at? You can give yourself the giggles as much as you want. I remember getting the giggles in church. A fleeting thought would invade my mind at the most inappropriate time and my face would resemble one of Pontious Pilate’s centurion’s in Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

The great thing about social media is that even on your worst days you can hide behind your screens and post amusing things. Scour Google for comical images etc whilst maintaining your mood from Hell. No need to type anything, say it with that classic picture of a shark photo bombing a diver. That one still creases my face up. Soon you realise you’ve made yourself laugh. Given yourself a D. O.S.E of feel good neurological chemicals: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins.

And should you be feeling particularly antisocial and not in the mood for a laugh?

Tell the world to GIF off. With an amusing one of course.
